FAQ - Developers
What will BDSSync connect to?
Almost anything. BDSSync will connect to any OLEDB or ODBC data source. That means almost any database or file format (csv, text or XML, XBRL) can be accessed.

BDSSync also has several Web Services configurations that allow data to be pulled or pushed over the internet securely.

BDSSync is compatible with MYOB small business accounting products: MYOB Accounting/Accounting Plus v15-16-17, Premier v9-10-11 and Premier Enterprise v3-4-5. Yes, we will be supporting the new versions of MYOB due for release soon!

Why should I choose to use BDSSync rather than develop a connector myself?
Because you want to spend your time developing your own software, not learning and supporting someone else’s. MYOB has a complex ODBC driver exposing its and somewhat challenging proprietary database. This database is a flat file database presented through the ODBC driver as relational.

It has a number of idiosyncrasies and non-standard behaviours. There are separate tables for reading and writing. All write-back is vetted by the MYOB application’s business logic, often making it necessary to understand this aspect of MYOB in detail. The driver also uses standard SQL commands in non-standard ways.

With BDSSync you can bypass the majority of the learning curve. You can perform the configuration of BDSSync yourself with a moderate knowledge of MYOB’s data structure, or get us to take care of the whole project.

Business Driven can also help with training and support during configuration. We provide free email support on BDSSync-related enquiries.

What knowledge do I need to configure BDSSync myself?
You will need to have a good understanding of SQL, stored procedures and understand the MYOB data structure and business rules. For the majority of developers the challenge lies with the last prerequisite. You can download a trial of BDSSync here.

How long does it take for Business Driven Systems to perform an integration?
Not all projects are the same, but safe to say that BDSSync can reduce the development and testing time by as much as 90%. Typical implementations can be achieved with 3-6 days of work - depending on your requirements.

If you are configuring BDSSync yourself you will need to allow time to learn MYOB’s data structure and business rules, which can be significant.

What happens when I update my software?
Most developers can update their own configuration with relative ease. You can ship an updated configuration file with your upgraded product to your customers, enabling them to continue using BDSSync as they upgrade. Business Driven Systems can help with updating configuration files at minimal cost.

What happens when MYOB updates their software?
You don’t need to make any changes to your configuration unless you want to take advantage of new functionality. Business Driven Systems will supply a patch that updates BDSSync and your template to ensure ongoing compatibility from the MYOB side.

Who supports BDSSync?
Business Driven Systems is happy to provide support services to all users of our software. This service is built into the annual maintenance fee for the software. Should you wish to support your clients we can provide training and second level support for your staff.

My software is available for Mac OSX. Can I use BDSSync?
MYOB’s ODBC driver requires the use of a PC-based MYOB program to operate. In order to run BDSSync your clients would need to own a PC-based version of MYOB and their Mac version, but integration is possible.
I have a number of customers looking for MYOB integration. Will you develop for them without my direct involvement?
Yes, if we can offset the development costs of the integration with a number of clients. Please contact us to discuss your interest in this matter further.

Do you provide volume licensing and partnership arrangements?
We are happy to discuss volume licensing, co-branding, reselling agreements and more.
